Mattie Ruth Thompson

Mattie Ruth Phillips Thompson, 93, of Anderson, South Carolina formerly of Kingsport, TN went home to be with the Lord at 3:16 p.m. Friday (October 1, 2010) at Anderson Memorial Hospital.

Born in Royston, Georgia on October 10, 1916, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Ila Pruitt Phillips, she has resided in Anderson, SC since 1988.

Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Avon Leon Thompson in 1988, a brother, James Phillips, a sister, Rachel Wood and by an infant brother, Judson Phillips.

Survivors include her son, Robert F. Thompson and wife Kathy of Anderson, SC; a granddaughter, Melissa Ellenburg of Anderson, SC; a great-granddaughter, Caitlyn Ellenburg of Anderson, SC; two sisters, Mollie Harper of Birmingham, Alabama and Drucilla Patterson of Anderson, SC; several nieces and nephews.

The family will gather at East Lawn Funeral Home from 1-1:45 p.m. Wednesday (October 6, 2010).

Burial will follow graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in East Lawn Memorial Park’s Garden of the Good Shepherd. The Rev. Shannon Salyer will officiate.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (October 10, 2010) at John Wesley United Methodist Church, Anderson, SC.
