

He was born May 23, 1946, in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Audra and Sam Hann. Paul graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and was drafted into the Army for Vietnam. He did well in the Army, achieving the rank of E6. After returning from Vietnam, he married Martha Ladd of Bristol, Tennessee on January 17, 1970. They moved to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina and worked for General Electric. They lived together in Wilmington, North Carolina until Martha passed in 2009. Paul and his daughter moved to Kingsport, Tennessee and later moved to Durham, North Carolina where Paul spent his last days before passing away. Paul really enjoyed all sports, but his true passion was baseball and softball. He coached several softball teams and truly enjoyed and loved watching Melissa play.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his grandmother, Louise McNew; his brother, David Hann; his sister, Carolyn Sams; and his beloved wife, Martha Hann.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Melissa Hann; his nieces, Norma Henderson and Sheila Kilgore; great-nieces, Whitney McNabb and Sydney Reece. Paul is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. at East Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend McDaniel officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the American Legion and the Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Paul's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
