Robert (Bob) Harold Shell, 86, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at his home. He was born January 28, 1938 in Johnson City and graduated from Science Hill High School. After high school he joined the US Marine Corps Reserve. Bob was a former employee of Piedmont and US Airways.
After he retired Bob enjoyed genealogy and had done extensive research on many of his family surnames. He was a member of the Cemetery Survey Team of Northeast Tennessee for over twenty years and helped to find, photograph, and transcribe over 400 cemeteries in three counties. He never turned down a trip to search for a lost or hidden cemetery. Bob was well-known for sharing his love of genealogy and he was always willing to help others with their research. The local genealogical community has lost a great friend and mentor.
He was survived by his daughter Traci Tester, her husband Ross Tester, two grandchildren Taylor and Noah; two siblings Thomas Larry Shell and Janice Shell Minter. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Powell and Ruby Edna Malone Shell, and two sisters Norma Jean Shell Long And Brenda Carolyn Shell Price.
