David M. Castillo

David M. Castillo, age 77, died peacefully at his home in Kingsville, Texas on Sunday, June 17, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on March 31, 1935, in Houston, Texas to Francisco Castillo and Teresa Gonzalez Castillo. After graduating in 1955 from H.M. King High School in Kingsville, David enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1955 to 1958. Upon returning to Kingsville, he studied at Texas A&I University and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. From 1961 to 1966, David taught business courses at Hebbronville High School. Afterwards, he was the Personnel Director for the City of Kingsville. From 1974 to 1976, David served as a a commissioner on the Kingsville City Commission. He was the owner of Castillo & Associates Insurance Agency. David was a member of St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church, Catholic War Veterans, a lifelong member of the Lions Club, member of the Knights of Columbus #3389 and life member of the Fourth Degree Assembly #1303.

David is survived by his wife of 49 years, Genoveva “Gino” Castillo of Kingsville; one daughter, Gigi Galdeano (Oscar) of San Antonio, Texas; two sons, David R. Castillo (Jane) of Flower Mound, Texas and Daniel M. Castillo (Vanessa) of Austin,Texas; one brother, Gilbert Castillo (Gloria) of Matehuala, S.L.P., Mexico; one sister, Ernestina Sanchez (Mike) of Kingsville; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Turcotte-Piper Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church with Fr. James Stembler as celebrant. Burial will follow in Kingsville at Chamberlain Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Veterans of Kleberg County Military Funeral Detail.

Active pallbearers will be Ruben Gutierrez, J.D.Castillo, Jorge L. Garcia, Jerry Trevino, Danny Sanchez, Matthew Sanchez, Rene Javier Loera and Phil Esquivel.

Services are entrusted to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, 205 General Cavazos Blvd., Kingsville, Texas.
