

Peggy Jane Zieschang, 53, of Sinton, Texas, formerly of Bishop, was called home to Glory after a lengthy illness on June 29, 2011. Peggy was born on September 24, 1957, in Kingsville, Texas. Her parents raised her and her sisters on the family farm in Bishop, Texas. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bishop, where she was very active. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, vacation bible school coordinator, and a member of the board of education.
Peggy graduated from Bishop High School in 1976. She went on to continue her education at Texas A&I University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1980 and a double Master’s degree in Kinesiology and Education in 1982. She had a passion for teaching and a love for her students. She began her teaching career at A&I University as a Graduate Assistant, where she taught classes and assisted coaching football. During her 25 years of teaching, she taught and coached at three local high schools: first at Taft High School, then Gregory-Portland High School and finally completed her career at Mathis High School. She taught health and history as well as coached volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, golf, and cross country. Peggy was a member of various teaching organizations including Texas Girls’ Coaching Association and American Federation of Teachers. She was dedicated in helping her students and athletes achieve success both inside and outside of the classroom.
When she was not teaching and coaching, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She spent her summers helping with harvest on the family farm and entertaining her nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bernice (Felfe) Zieschang; infant sister, Debra Ann Zieschang; and both her paternal and maternal grandparents.
She is survived by her four sisters: Joan Zieschang (Melvin) Elley of Austin, Cathy Zieschang and Sharon Zieschang both of Bishop, Patricia (Glenn) Dominey of Lufkin; nieces and nephews: Andrea (Josh) Brune of Buda, Diedre (Brandon) Cummins of Austin, Justin Dominey of Fort Worth, Tracy Dominey and Kyle Dominey both of Lufkin; one great niece, Leighton Cummins of Austin; and good friend, Eileen Troup of Sinton.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Trisun-Sinton, Harbor Hospice, Dr. Rene Acuna, and Donna Richards for all they did for Peggy during her illness.
Visitation will take place on Friday, July 1, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary, Kingsville. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 801 E. Main Street, Bishop, with Rev. Matthew Ulmer officiating. Burial will follow the service in Bishop at Concordia Cemetery.
