Mom attended Wabash School about one mile from her home. She was baptized, confirmed and married at Wordsworth Lutheran Church about two miles from their farm. Mom’s faith in her Lord was foremost in her life as a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Windthorst. She was an active member of the Lutheran Ladies Aid serving various positions. Mom and Dad worked hard together on their small farm to try to make a good living for their three children. Besides grain they also raised cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks and turkeys. Selling cream, eggs and livestock was often their only source of income when crops were poor. Mom always grew a large garden and her love of gardening continued when she moved into Windthorst and became an active member of the Windthorst Horticulture Society.
Mom loved music and taught herself how to play guitar and the piano. She loved to sing and was one of the founding members of the 60 Plus Singers choir, who travelled widely entertaining in many seniors homes for over twenty years. Mom also loved to play games, especially cards. She played bridge Saturday and Sunday every weekend when she was in Windthorst as well as other games at the Winthorst Friendship Centre every Monday and Thursday. She continued playing cards after she moved to the seniors home in Kipling until about a month before her death.
Mom became a resident of Kipling Integrated Health Centre on May 15, 2012. We wish to thank the staff of Kipling Integrated Health Centre for the excellent care that they provided her until her death on September 1, 2016. We also wish to thank Pastor Andersen for his regular visits and prayers.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at Windthorst Community Rec Centre at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9 with Pastor Gerald Bruce Andersen officiating. Interment of cremated remains will be in the Windthorst Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will be held in the Windthorst Community Recreation Centre following the interment.
