Gwen was born on November 1, 1922 in Hazelwood, SK to Alfred and Elizabeth Cross as one of five siblings with brothers Boyd, Gerry, Don and sister Phyllis. She attended school in Hazel Valley. In 1947 she married Scofield Coffey and moved to his family ranch in Hazelwood District, SK which they later took over and operated until retirement in 1997. Gwen enjoyed her time tending to the family home and garden and raising her children – and later, doting on her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved baking, birdwatching, needlework, crossword puzzles and quilting with friends.
Gwen is survived by her brother Don (Nita) Cross; two children, Richard (Florence) Coffey and Lorrie (Alex Ferris) Sinclair; six grandchildren, Chris (Wendy Byrnes) Coffey, Dana (Danny) Coffey, Sara (Chris Gieni) Coffey, Evan (Skye Bentley) Coffey, Angela (Chris) Giroux and Hilary (Robert) Humphrey; and, ten great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jassamyn, Alexis, Janessa, Maguire, Carter, Elliott, Ryan, Jack and Dash.
The family also wishes to thank Marnie Thody and Christina Slykhuis for their enduring friendship and kindness. They would also like to thank the staff at Extendicare Parkside for their compassionate care.
A graveside service will be held for Scofield and Gwen on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Fletwood Church Cemetery, south of Kennedy, SK. Public notice will appear as to details prior to the service time.
