Terry was predeceased by her husband: James (Jim) Kovach; daughter Dorothy Sheffield (nee Kovach); parents Madelaine (nee LaPlante) and Kamiel DeBruyne; sisters Florence Irene Melnyk (nee DeBruyne) and Irene Lutz (nee DeBruyne) and brothers Clarence DeBruyne and James DeBruyne.
She is survived by her loving daughter Sharon (John) Kovach; sister Ann Miller (nee DeBruyne); brother John DeBruyne; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Terry spent most of her younger life growing up in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. After her mother passed away at a very young age, she spent most of time helping to raise her siblings.
She married her husband Jim Kovach in 1956. She raised her family in Regina, Saskatchewan.
When she lived in Regina, Terry joined St. Martin’s Catholic Women’s League and had a lifetime membership. She loved helping others just like others helped her when times were tough for her, her siblings, and family.
For a short time, she lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba while her husband Jim Kovach obtained his master’s in civil engineering, then back to Regina. While raising her family she often worked as a waitress to help bring extra income into the family especially when her husband attended university.
Both her and her husband also lived in Kipling, Saskatchewan for awhile, while Jim Kovach farmed.
While she lived in Kipling, Saskatchewan she was always helping the ladies of both the Presbyterian Church and St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church. She attended both churches regularly while making sure she said her rosary. Her faith in god never wavered.
She loved helping others whenever she could. Always had a smile on her face and a story to tell to anyone that would listen. She loved to visit with her family and friends.
Some of her many talents were: sewing as she was a seamstress, made hats, loved to cook, bake, canning, make perogies and cabbage rolls, play cards with cribbage being her favourite card game, sing, knit, crochet, quilting, gardening, play bingo, and truly any type of activity. Time and time again she taught her family and friends how to knit and crochet. She was eager to try anything and mastered everything.
In 2021 Terry and Jim moved back home to Kipling Saskatchewan into long term care so that they could spend the last of part of their lives together. It was a very happy day for both of them to be finally reunited again.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Kipling Integrated Health Centre for their loving and professional care.
A small graveside service for family and friends will be performed at the old Bekevar Presbyterian Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband Jim Kovach.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association Saskatchewan Division, 2702-12th Avenue, Regina, SK., S4T 1J2, https://sk.cmha.ca/get-involved/donate/
