

Eloise Mansfield Lewis, 92, died peacefully February 4, 2017 at Good Samaritan care center in Kissimmee, Florida after a short illness. Born March 27, 1924 in Littleton, New Hampshire, Eloise made a career as an employee of the U.S. government, most notably with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where she lived for many years. Upon retirement she moved to Orlando, where she stayed for 20 years, caring for her mother in her last years, and established the Golden Age Fellowship in their community. Eloise enjoyed her last ten years in Kissimmee. Until six weeks before her passing, she played bridge twice a week, volunteered weekly in the Good Samaritan gift shop, attended Bible study, maintained correspondence with lifelong friends and family, cared lovingly for her cat Koda, the last of several during her lifetime, and was a cheerful and helpful friend to all who were fortunate to know her.
Quietly but determinedly independent, Eloise never married but was always a devoted aunt to her nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is survived by nieces Nancy (Phil, deceased) Henry, Susanne (Johannes) Bjorner, Niki Kathleen Nicklet, Ruth Nicklet; nephews Roger (Kathy) Lewis, Glenn (Thea) Lewis; grandniece Ginger (Tim) Goudy and great-grandnephew Aubrey Goudy; grandnephew Britt (Felicity) Lewis and great-grandnephew Jameson Wyatt Lewis, and grandniece Rachel Lewis. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Clara Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederic Dunbar Lewis and Irma Leffingwell Lewis, and her three siblings, William “Billy” Lewis, Mary Lewis (Robert) Nicklet, and Walter Lewis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Grissom Funeral Home and Crematory in Kissimmee, and a celebration of Eloise’s life was held at First Presbyterian Church in Kissimmee on February 7, 2017. A family gathering and inurnment of her remains will take place at Maple Street Cemetery in Bethlehem, NH, on June 17, 2017.
