Marilyn started to sing at a very young age, competing in various competitions and earning much recognition, she performed with many local groups, i.e. Varitones, Frontline, and Prairie Fire. She did backup vocals with some of our finest entertainers. In the early '80s she put together a band of her own, known as "Marilyn Fries and the Smokey River Show Band" and performed as featured artists at such places as the Stampede Corral, Ranch, Kennedy's and Dallas; and the list goes on. In the '80s she released two of her own songs on record, The Neon Lights and The Words; this led her to Nashville where she competed for a recording contract and sang on the Grand Ole Opry. Some time was spent performing in and around Los Angeles, CA before she settled in Nanaimo, BC where she continued to find opportunities to perform professionally on Vancouver Island. She became involved with and committed to the Timmy telethons as a performer and was part of raising thousands of dollars for these great kids.
Loving wife to Ted, dear daughter to Thelma Fries, sister to Bruce, Linda, Donna, Rita, Janet and Jean. Predeceased by her father Glen Fries in 1964.
