Dr. Alfred D. Grant went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 9. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, he was a faithful and loving husband for 60 years to Elizabeth Duso Grant, formerly of Gorham, ME.
Al received his B.S degree from Salem State University in Massachusetts and his M.Ed. (Media/Technology) from Boston University, and Ph.D. from The University of Wisconsin in Madison.
He administered a media lab at The University of Wisconsin and developed and administered a media lab and became acting director of the media center for the State University of New York (SUNY) at Cortland. He also taught at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, which is where he met his future wife. However, most of his career was spent at the University of Tennessee where he taught Instructional Media and Technology for over 30 years.
Al was active in his church in outreach ministries and was known as a prayer warrior and regularly led prayer groups and Bible studies both at UT and at church. He was previously an elder at West Hills Presbyterian Church where he and Beth were longtime members.
In addition to his wife Beth, he leaves behind four amazing children: sons Daniel Grant (Stephanie) of Chattanooga, David Grant (Melanie) of Maryville and daughters Sarah Beth Newton (Scott) of Chattanooga and Rebecca Grant of Brooklyn. The Lord blessed him with five awesome grandchildren: Kelsey Riner (Steven), Jack Grant, Andrew Grant, Blake Newton and Asher Newton. He also leaves behind a sister Marjorie Grant and brother Peter Grant, both of Massachusetts. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Charles and Annie Grant and brother Bob Grant.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Whispering Waters in Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919.
