The pilot called on him to repair in the air as the were beyond the point of no return. None of his instruments or tools were within reach but the situation was dire and something had to be done. So, there was a hot cup in the cock pit. He removed the electrical cord from the cup and repaired the electrical short. They made it safely home. As an air craft electrician, he received several commendations, awards and medals. He transferred to the training field and he completed his military service as a training NCO in the Pentagon. Roger was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Bluegrass. He enjoyed his service to the Lord. He served as Finance Committee Chairman, a member of the Board of Trustees, Senior Adult Ministry Chairman, Shut-in Visitation Committee, and Sunday School Superintendent. He didn’t hesitate to give someone a hand up. He believed if he had done what he was supposed to do then he wasn’t responsible for what recipients did.
He was supportive of his family. He coached little league football and was an Assistant Scout Master when the boys were in Scouts. He worked with the band parents when the boys were in band.
