Dorothy Marie Briggs Woodcock, 94, a longtime resident of Westport, Connecticut, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2020 at her son’s home in Knoxville, Tennessee where she has been living for the past year.
Dot was born on August 6, 1925 in Bayside Long Island, New York, to the late John Roderick Walter Briggs and wife May Hilliker. She was predeceased in 1973 by her husband Delmar Cassellmann Woodcock, whom she married in 1952; and by her older sister, Helen Ranney.
She is survived by her daughter Debra Still of Denver, her son William Woodcock of Knoxville, her daughter Jill Clarke of Fairfield, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and her dear friend Hilda Reichmann from Connecticut.
She worked in New York City at Business Publications Audit where she met Del and later at the Danbury Mint for 15 years. Dot was a pillar of strength and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her warmth and love will be cherished and remembered forever. She lived a simple and independent life on her own terms and was perfectly content in doing so.
Her family and friends have countless fond memories of her love and appreciation of nature, gardening, sunsets, puzzles, a sip of beer with dinner, her son-in-law Roger, daughter-in-law Debbie, and family vacations at Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire.
“We will see you in our sunsets, hear your voice when the birds sing and feel your presence when the gentle winds blow. You will forever live with us in spirit.”
