Baker, Dott Adam, of South Knoxville, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012 at his home. Beloved Daddy, Poppie, Brother, Cousin, Uncle and Friend. Born on May 1, 1919 to Rev. A. F. Baker and Gertrude Tarwater Baker. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Artha Armstrong, Carolyn Hensley Armstrong; brother, Warren Baker and son-in-law, Jerry Fritts. Reunited in death with his lovely wife of seventy years, Mildred (Susy) Lytle Baker. He was well loved for many reasons: his kindness and generosity toward others, his encouraging and positive attitude, and the wisdom he imparted by word and example. His legacy of faith and family sustains those left to mourn his passing: daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Mark Inman, Vicki and Terry Wells, Cindy and Phillip Ownby; sister, Nanabelle Flynn; sister-in-law, Helen Baker; brother-in-law, Ralph Armstrong; grandchildren, Melanie Clark, Butch Inman, Adam Baker Fritts, Logan Fritts, Matthew Ownby, Lauren Ownby; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild with another due in October; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the founder of Dott Baker Agency Real Estate and Insurance in 1954. His greatest loves were his Savior, Jesus Christ, his lovely wife, Susy, his 3 daughters and his large family. He encouraged all to “Make a friend” and to “Use your head.” The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Charlotte Lowery, who took loving care of our dad for 10 years, Kim Burnette, and Georgia Johnson. A special thanks to his grandson, Matt, who cared for his Poppie on weekends and at his death. They shared many good times and stories together. Dott was a long time member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. In recent years the television ministry of First Baptist Church Knoxville, became his church at home. The family will receive friends, Sunday, April 22nd from 2-4 PM with the services following at Valley Grove Baptist Church, 9000 Old Sevierville Pike, Knoxville. Nephew, Rev. Kenny Armstrong will officiate and his grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday, April 23, 2012, for an 11 AM interment service. Memorials may be made to the Television Ministry of First Baptist Church Knoxville, 510 W. Main Street, Knoxville, Tennessee 37902. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
