Effie Ellen Matthews 88 of Knoxville went to be with the Lord Sunday July 25, 2021 surrounded by her family after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She attended Seven Islands Missionary Baptist Church and Ball Road Baptist Church. Effie retired from Millers Department Store after 25 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Effie was preceded in death by parents, James P. Williams and Elizabeth Evans; husband, Buddy Matthews; son, Christopher Matthews; brothers, Jim and Frank; sister, Bonnie; half-brothers, Carl and Dewey. She is survived by Son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Sara Matthews; grandchildren, Dawn and Dwayne Smith, Kelly and Richard Hutcherson, Brent and Star Matthews and Courtney Matthews; seven great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Jerry Lawson. Several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to caregiver, Nakema Boyd and all the staff at Avalon Hospice especially Patty. The family will receive friends Thursday July 29, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. at Berry Funeral Home 3704 Chapman Hwy.
