

Jack Mayfield, 11/10/1933-8/9/2020, Jack was 86 when he passed away peacefully on Sunday evening after a long battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Julian Mayfield, his parents, Leonard Mayfield and Eva Mae Leatherwood Mayfield, twin brother Pat Mayfield and brothers Clint Atchley, Jewel Atchley and Andy Atchley and nephew Chris Mayfield. He is survived by his son, Jason Mayfield, stepdaughters Linda Julian, Andra Overbay and Jill Julian, niece Mary Pat Mayfield Cox (& Gary) and granddaughter Christina (& Michael) Widener, and grandchildren McCulley and Will Mayfield, and Yvonne Eldridge.
Jack grew up in South Knoxville and attended Young High School, graduating in 1952. While at Young he played on the football team his sophomore through senior year, he also played on the basketball team his sophomore year; he was a member of the Key Club, the Hi-Y, Athletic Y, Talkateens and Jabber Jackets clubs. Jack loved watching college football and especially the University of Tennessee games.
Jack went on to work for South Central Bell, Contel Telecommunications and GTE until he retired in 2001. He was a long time resident of Elmcroft/Eclipse Senior Living. We want to thank all of the staff and the hospice staff of Amedysis for all of their care for Jack over the years and in his last hours.
Arrangements being handled by Berry’s Funeral Home (Dignity Memorial) on Chapman Highway, after his cremation, his urn will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery next to his beloved wife, Barbara, with a small grave side service at 11:00 on Monday, August 17, 2020. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your favorite Animal Shelter or the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley or Young Williams or to the Alzheimer’s organization.
