Vaughn, Jack Thomas (JT), left this earthly realm on Friday, January 16, 2015 for higher ground after being held hostage by Alzheimer’s Disease for ten long years. Our loss becomes Heaven’s gain. JT was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. JT was a lifelong resident of Knoxville, growing up in the Burlington area and graduating from Stair Tech in 1948. His interests were varied and accomplishments many. He was a loyal employee of KUB for 33 years. In his younger days, playing tennis was a passion. His love of music and jokes was boundless. He made many beautiful stained glass pieces both large and small which he never sold but always gave away. He sang lead in the Smokyland Chorus. His woodworking skills produced everything from plaques and birdhouses to furniture. This man could build or fix anything! In 1998 he planted hundreds of daffodil bulbs randomly throughout the woods surrounding his home. Each spring, before the leaves have emerged, all these jaunty yellow faces pop up in golden glory. What a living legacy for years to come! He was an avid golfer and wonderful dancer and will be sorely missed by many. Leaving behind to weep and to smile while remembering are his wife, Joanie; son, Mark Wesley Vaughn; daughter, Lisa Vaughn Allen and husband, Tom; granddaughter, Emily Louise Allen; and grandson, Nicholas R.W. Allen; along with many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Remine Vaughn and Winnie Ruth Vaughn, and his wife, Iris June Emert Vaughn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the Tennessee Valley, PO Box 51723, Knoxville, Tennessee 37950 or Alzheimer’s Tennessee, Inc., 5801 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee 37919. Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 5:00 PM, Rev. Tom King officiating. Family and friends will meet at Highland Memorial Cemetery on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 3:00 PM for the interment. Arrangements by Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway.
