Janie Deane Welker, 81, of Knoxville, died peacefully on September 14, 2019, after an extended illness. Born in Knoxville on May 20, 1938, to Mr and Mrs Thomas J. Deane, Jr., she was a graduate of Salem Academy in Winston-Salem, NC. She attended the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Before her marriage in 1962, she worked as a stewardess for American Airlines. Mrs. Welker was predeceased by her parents, and brothers Thomas J. Deane III and James H. Deane. She is survived by her daughters: Laura Welker Tredway(David) of Atlanta, GA and Janie Swift Welker of Knoxville. “Granny” is also survived by three grandchildren: Elizabeth Tyler Tredway (Chip Odom), Caroline Goldin(Will), and Hunter Tredway. She was blessed with two great grandchildren: Eliza and Nora. Family will receive friends at Berry Highland Memorial Funeral Home in Bearden on Wednesday, September 18, 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. Family will gather at 12:45 pm at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery for a 1:00 pm graveside service and interment. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer’s Association.
