It is with deep sadness that the family of Jerrell Perry Childress, announces his passing. Mr. Childress died with dignity at the home he built with his wife, Marilyn, in 1959.
Marilyn pre-deceased Mr. Childress in 1993. Mr. Childress is survived by his daughter, Marta and grand-daughter, Audrey, currently of Mobile, Alabama, and by his son, Perry, and his grandchildren Wes and Alicia, who live locally. He is also survived by his great-grand-daughter, Ella, of Morristown, Tennessee.
Mr. Childress will be remembered publically for his service on the USS Ingersoll in the Pacific Theatre during World War II, and for his service to Sterchi’s Furniture Company, where he started as a store clerk and ended his career as its Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Childress will be remembered privately for his scholarship of Shakespeare and 18th Century British literature, for his dignity and self-sacrifice, and for his enduring commitment to the welfare of his family.
The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
