Uncle JD always put a smile on my face. As a child he was such a kind and funny man--always goofing around with me just like another kid. As an adult, I shared many a cup of coffee with him at my parents' house and he always put a smile on my face with his exciting stories and exuberance for life. Heaven will never be a dull place because Uncle JD will always have an exciting story to tell! Uncle JD loved his family and he never stopped talking about his children--Pam, John and Brian. He was so very proud of them. And he absolutely beamed with joy when he would talk about his grandchildren. Uncle JD had wonderful friends and he knew people everywhere he went. I recall he was very popular with the ladies especially at the McDonald's in Seminole for a while! Uncle JD was very good to my parents in their last days. He checked on my mother daily and spent a great deal of time with my dad after mom passed. He made sure Dad got to go to Cracker Barrel for his biscuits and gravy, and he became his companion and trusted friend. Uncle JD always spent time with my family and I when we visited Florida--he made sure he was available to see us and to bring my kids treats and gifts. I remember sitting with Uncle JD at his house just prior to the presidential election of 2008--we watched TV and ate potato chips and drank Cokes, and he gave me the most interesting political dissection of the state of our country I think I've ever heard. He had some strong opinions, but he loved his country, his family, and God. The last time I saw Uncle JD was at my nephew's funeral 2 years ago. He looked sad over the loss of Chris, and I looked into his big beautiful eyes and there were so many memories there--a life full of joy and sorrow, happiness and pain, love and loss. Uncle JD lived a full life and brought so much personality and flare to our family. We loved him, we will miss him, and we will certainly never forget him!

Your life was always full of fun.  Your love for children was always evident. I remember all the times when Bill and I were  children that you played and kidded with us. It was fun for us to know you would be visiting. You gave my son special time and included him as a child and you and he spent a lot of time just hanging out with you when he was an adult. You deeply loved all your family and were closely tied to My Mom.  I so enjoyed the times we had holidays at our house along with Brian, the times you helped at family weddings and anniversaries.  I shall never forget you and love so many of these memories.  Rest in peace J.D.  You will not be forgotten.  To Brian, Jackie, and children, you will be blessed for the time and courage it took when you became the parent and your Dad the child.  You stood by him and cared for him when it was not always easy. This is a sign of real love and grace. You are a very special family. May you weather this time of sadness and look forward to the times you can look back and smile at your many fond memories

Brian & Jaclyn:
I have many fond memories of Uncle J.D., but I especially remember how he reached out to minister to my Dad after my Mom passed away. Uncle J.D. picked Dad up many times and drove him to the Cracker Barrel for an extra large helping of gravy and biscuits. He didn't hesitate to run interference for Dad with the waiters to make sure Dad got what he wanted for breakfast, even if it wasn't on the menu. He always had a smile and a story to tell, and Dad was grateful for the companionship and assistance that Uncle J.D. provided. He will be missed in this life, but I am sure that Mom and Papaw and Grandma Ammons are welcoming him with open arms in the eternal life that follows. I hope you take comfort in knowing that Uncle J.D. made a difference in this life and you will see him again in just a little while.

We are so sorry about the loss of your dad and grandfather.  We always enjoyed his company and we will miss him. We enjoyed visiting him at the VA and got a kick out of how much he enjoyed the candy we brought him.  We know he loved his family very much.  We loved him.  You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Rest in Peace Uncle JD - You are one of my favorites. You always made time to visit us when we came down and made the kids feel especially great and welcome.
