John Davis "Jack" Brooks, Jr., age 93, of South Knoxville, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018. He was a member of Church Street United Methodist Church for over fifty years and was a former member of Russellville Baptist Church in Russellville, Tennessee. Jack was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a graduate of Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN. He worked for over 40 years with Schering-Plough as a pharmaceutical sales representative. He sang in a gospel quartet called the Silver Tones as a young man. The group performed live on radio in the Morristown-Hamblen County area. He was a member of the Pathfinders Sunday School class, where he loved to lead the class in singing. Jack was an avid UT sports fan. He and his family traveled extensively across the United States and abroad. He loved children and made sure he had a quarter in his pocket to give to any child he met. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Odom Brooks, parents John Sr. and Zula Brooks, and sister Maureen Brooks Christopher. He is survived by his daughter Elaine Brooks and husband Hugo Vargas of Old Hickory, TN; son Jon Brooks of South Knoxville; grandson David Vargas; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Monday, September 10, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway. Family and friends will meet at Berry Highland Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 11, 2018 for a graveside service, Rev. Jan Wade officiating.
