Linda Jean Mowles

Linda Jean Hamilton Mowles, age 74, of Knoxville, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. Linda was a loving and gracious Mother and Grandmother, a devoted Wife, and an avid and faithful believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A visitation for Linda will be held Monday, April 25, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Berry Highland Memorial, 5315 Kingston Pike.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 1:00pm at West Hills Presbyterian Church, 7600 Bennington Dr. NW. The family will also receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 to 1:00pm at West Hills Presbyterian Church. A graveside service will follow, Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 3:00pm, at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 5315 Kingston Pike.

Linda was born April 11, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois to Harold and Alice Wittenborn. Linda was a graduate of Taylor University (Class of 1969) and received her law degree from the University of Tennessee Law School (Class of 1983). She was a highly accomplished attorney and shareholder at Lewis, King, Krieg and Waldrop, P.C. where she argued in various courts including the Tennessee Courts of Appeals and Supreme Court, the Fifth, Sixth, and Eighth Circuit Courts of Appeals, and successfully opposed certiorari on cases before the U. S. Supreme Court. She retired after 30 years in 2013.

She was a dedicated teacher, member of the choir, mentor, and an active member of West Hills Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was the author of the Ruminant Scribe, a personal blog which linked pictures of our world with scriptural truth. She was also an enthusiastic machine embroiderer and crafter, and enjoyed donating her time and energy to making shirts and dresses for children served by Homes of Love.

Linda was married to the love of her life, William R. “Bill” Mowles, on November 27, 1986 at Middlebrook United Methodist Church in Knoxville. She is survived by her son, Jonathan Hamilton and his wife, Mandi, her daughter, Elizabeth Light and her husband, Michael, her step-daughter, Shawn Ploe and her husband, Brian, and her grandchildren, Nathaniel (Brady), Evan, Rayane, Jonathan David and Connor.

Linda’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to their church families at Middlebrook Pike United Methodist and West Hills Presbyterian Church, Dr. Christopher Shaffrey at Duke University Neurology, UT Medical Center and Home Health, and all of the friends and family who have brought joy into her life.
