

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Robert Lindwood James and Beatrice White James. After a brief stay in Pittsburgh, she and her family moved to Macon, Georgia, where she remained until her enrollment in North Georgia College. After college she moved with her first husband, Ron Bateman, to Fort Lewis, Washington. After five years there, she and her young family moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where she worked as a computer programmer for Martin Marietta and later at Delta M Corporation. After retirement she became a volunteer at Parkwest Hospital.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and cousin. Linda enjoyed spending time with her friends, playing cards, and hanging out with her “Beach Bunch”. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents and second husband William Roberts. She is survived by her sons Kenneth Bateman, Alan (Jessica) Bateman, grandchildren; Dylan (Elizabeth) Burris, Sydnee (Seth) Metts, Ema (John) Getty, 4 great grandchildren, Stella, Elijah, Ani, and John. She is also survived by her sister Marcia (Mike) Bryant, nephews James (April) Bryant and David (Sondra) Bryant, great-nephew Matt Bryant, great-niece Abigail Bryant as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
A visitation for Linda will be held Saturday, April 19, 2025 at 1:00 PM with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM, and an Inurnment to follow at 3:00 PM at Berry Highland West, 9913 Sherrill Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37932.
