M.J. "Buddy" Tharp, age 88, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord April 3, 2018 peacefully at his home. Buddy was a member of Sevier Heights Baptist Church for 15 years where he served as a deacon and had a passion for visiting the hospitals and assisting the pastoral care ministries of Sevier Heights. He retired from Oak Ridge Y-12 with 38 years of service. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Shrine Temple and South Knoxville Masonic Lodge #728. Buddy was an avid Hockey Fan and held season tickets from the very beginning with the Knoxville Knights to the Ice Bears. Preceded in death by parents, Cota and Minnie "Lit" Tharp; wife Bobbie Tharp; grandson, Rick Haga; and sister and brother-in-law, Melba and Luke Madden. He is survived by daughter, Debbie Tharp; special friend, Ed Anderson; son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Rhonda Tharp; grandchildren, Aaron and wife Theresa Stallard, Brooke and husband Brandon Dutton, Megan and husband Chad Wiggins; great grandchildren, Cassie and husband Andrew Dailey, Madison Haga; great great grandchildren, Devan and Taylor Stallard, Paislee and Little T Dailey; special nephew, Tom Madden, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends 4-6 pm Saturday, April 7, 2018 with a Celebration of Life service to follow in the chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating.
