

Mizell, Martha, age 92, of South Knoxville, passed away February 18, 2014 at Island Home Park Health and Rehab. She was born August 13, 1921 in Grainger County, Tennessee to Rev. Franklin Taylor Munsey and Sallie Ann Elizabeth Ford Munsey. She grew up in Grainger and Union Counties in the Black Fox community and attended Black Fox School. When the Tennessee Valley Authority began relocating families in 1933, the Munsey family relocated to the Greenback community of Loudon County. Martha married Charles Nelson Mizell on May 9, 1937 in Greenback and began housekeeping. She later resided in Maryville and South Knoxville. Martha and Charlie had one daughter, Shirley Mizell Berry who passed away April 26, 2013. She was of the Baptist faith and was cared for by the Homebound Ministry of Sevier Heights Baptist Church. Martha enjoyed sewing, crochet, knitting, quilting, cooking, and reading. In addition to her parents, husband, and daughter, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Samuel Munsey, Albert Edgar Munsey, Charles Odie Munsey, Walter Price Munsey, Ira Burton Munsey, and Roy Henderson Munsey; sisters, Ethel Josephine Dyer and Nora Gertrude Harvey; great-grandson, Andrew Lee Sofield. She is survived by grandchildren, Tim Berry and wife Tammy, Leigh Ann Berry Sofield and husband Bill, Jeff Berry and wife Mary Lynn; great-grandchildren, Paige Berry, Daniel, James, David, and John Sofield, Lauren, Jacob, and Caroline Berry; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be 2:00pm Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Clarks Grove Cemetery, Maryville with Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway.
