Mary Ellen Cooper

Mary Ellen Cooper, age 91 of Knoxville, passed away August 6, 2025. Mary Ellen was born and raised in Knoxville, graduated from Young High School, and attended Draughons Business College. She had a passion for music, playing the piano and organ for many churches. Mary Ellen was a longtime member of Meridian Baptist Church. She retired from the Knox County Association of Baptists. Mary Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed.

Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Jack R. Cooper; parents, Doshia and Creed Patty, Sr.; and brother, Creed Patty, Jr.

She is survived by daughter, Sheri (Joe) Young; son, Tim (Lori) Cooper; grandchildren: Britney, Josh, Kymberly, Amy and Robert; great grandchildren: Kylie, Kenny, Nolan, Aylor, Leo, Brayden, Bryleigh, Dustin, Jason, Amelia, and Meredith; and sisters-in-law, Evelyn Cooper and Louise Patty.

Family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 PM Friday, August 8, 2025 at Meridian Baptist Church, with a funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM for a 10:00 AM interment at Woodlawn Cemetery Saturday, August 9, 2025.
