

Miriam Elizabeth Overton Lawhorn, age 82, of Knoxville passed peacefully May 24, 2024 at South High Senior Living. Miriam was a graduate of Young High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College and received her master’s degree in education from the University of Tennessee. She was a kindergarten teacher at Mount Olive Elementary from 1976 to 2001 She was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church since 1968; where she was active in handbells and singing in the church choir. Miriam served alongside her husband with the Boy Scouts of America for 30 plus years. Preceded in death by husband, Samuel T. Lawhorn, Jr. and parents, Wilson Burney Overton and Miriam Elizabeth Card Overton.
She is survived by sons Samuel T. Lawhorn, III and wife Gina, Andrew Oscar Lawhorn and Matthew Allen Lawhorn and wife Brigetta; grandchildren, Amanda Latham, Derek Davis, S. Taylor Lawhorn, IV, Sydnee Tolea Lawhorn, Ty Lawhorn, Andi Love Lawhorn, Callie Lawhorn, Gage Lawhorn and Logan Lawhorn; sisters, Georgann (Tom) Byerly and Judy (Tony) Stansberry; brother, Wilson B. Overton, Jr.; several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Miriam’s choir K-Town Sound www.ktownsound.org.

The family will receive friends 5-7 pm Friday, May 30, 2025, at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7 pm. Interment will be private Pleasant Forest Cemetery in Farragut.
