Born in 1947 in New York to Edwin and Elsie Smith, Nancy grew up alongside her siblings Dale, Clyde, Cheryl, June, and Edie.
Nancy dedicated 24 years of service to the Sertoma Learning Center, where she faithfully worked to support those in need. She was proud of many accomplishments, and above all, of building a large and loving family that meant everything to her.
She was married to her beloved husband, Robert “Papaw” Miller, and together they built a life centered on strength and resilience.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Thomson; her husband, Robert Miller; her beloved family members Bobby Miller, Roy Miller, Siti Miller, Bud Miller, and Grant Miller; and her parents, Edwin and Elsie Smith.
She is survived by her children: Jeanna Drummer; Tammy Roberts and her husband, Mike; Larry Kirschner and his wife, Lauri; Tamara Cosilmon and her husband, Bryan; Tim Miller and his wife, Linda; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Miller. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and loved ones who will forever carry her memory.
Nancy loved to cook, and more than anything, she loved taking care of people. She was a natural caregiver who always tried to fix whatever was wrong — whether it was a problem, a broken heart, or a difficult situation. If someone needed a place to stay, she opened her home. If someone needed advice, she gave her honest opinion. She was loud and boisterous, strong-willed and firm, but underneath it all was a tender heart that showed itself exactly when it was needed most.
Nancy will be remembered for her tough love, her unwavering strength, and the fierce way she protected and cared for those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the family she was so proud of and in the many lives she touched simply by being there.
Visitation will be held on March 3 at 5:00 PM, with the service following at 7:00 PM. Burial will take place on March 4 at 11:00 AM at Berry Highland South, 9010 E. Simpson Rd, Knoxville, TN 37920.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nancy’s name to Sertoma Learning Center, as supporting the organization reflects her love for Sertoma and the years she dedicated to it. If flowers are sent, they will be collected by Random Acts and repurposed following the funeral proceedings.
