Natomia "Jo" Hobby, was born in Sweetwater, TN. She attended Fulton High School. Natomia lived and raised her children in South Knoxville. She moved to Cherokee Lake, in Jefferson City, TN 22 years ago.
Natomia turned 80 on February 9th, and on that same day she was admitted to UT hospital finding out she had an aggressive brain tumor. She passed away 8 days later on Thursday, February 17th at 12:45pm.
Natomia worked and retired from Burlington and South Knoxville post offices as a rural carrier for over 30 years. A Daughter and 2 Grandchildren followed in her footsteps in the Post Office career. She loved country music but would always let us kids listen to WNOX in the car when growing up. We always appreciated that. We would always have the best Christmases, and Mom and Daddy would often take us camping on the lake as kids. Natomia was always good with carpentry and being able to think out how to build things. She could build picnic tables and even constructed a floating boat dock. She loved to sew, knit, crochet, cross-stitch, and quilt, as well. She even made our baby dolls clothes by hand.
She loved to dance and loved to learn new dances. Natomia loved to sail on her sailboat, go on road trips, and play card games (like Rook and Canasta). One to always have a good book in her hands, and feet buried in the sand (when possible). She always had supper fixed and would cook breakfast before we went to school every morning. She would attend her children’s sports games and taught Brownies. When her grandchildren were younger, she would take them to her condo in Florida (by herself) for the whole month of June. She was a great Mom and Mamaw. She rarely complained, and would never talk badly of others. She set a good example of what we all should be. She had a gentleness about her, had a kind soul and a good heart. She was fully devoted to her 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
She made friends easily, and was loved by many. Friends were often greeted with a, "Hello, Flarey". Family greeted with a, "Hey, brat." 'Sug and squirt were lovingly used, as well.
Natomia was a sweet, loving, intelligent and beautiful woman. She was empathetic and caring. If we hurt, she hurt.
We cannot brag enough on our Mom and Mamaw. She will be missed beyond words. We love you.
Natomia is preceded in death by her parents L.C. ”Pop” and Lydia “Bigmom” Lay, sister Mary Ruth “Punk” Fisher, and brother J.C. Lay. She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Clayton, Donna Dee Hobby and Kimberly (Daymond) Jones, son Bruce Wayne Hobby, Jr., grandchildren Angela Reed, Tyler Comer, Kayla (Jordan) Blair, Bobby John Hobby, Juliana Daugherty, and Vanessa Henry, great grandchildren Jackson and Landon Blair.
A graveside service will be held at Berry Highland South on Monday February 21, 2022 at 1:00pm.
