Robert Ross McMahon, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, left us far too soon on June 25, 2025. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Robert was a true son of East Tennessee—rooted in its hills, inspired by its beauty, and devoted to its people.
Robert’s life was defined by quiet strength, a kind heart, and a spirit of gentle adventure. He was a man who found joy in life’s simple gifts: the peaceful hush of the woods, the satisfaction of working with his hands, and the loyal companionship of a good dog.
He earned his associate’s degree in mechanical and electrical engineering from Pellissippi State Community College and Tennessee State Technical Community College. For many years, he applied his talents at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where he was respected not just for his skill, but for the way he treated people—with patience, humor, and genuine care. It was there that Robert met Teresa, the love of his life. Together for 30 years, they shared a bond built on unwavering devotion, laughter, and countless adventures, big and small.
Robert had many passions that reflected his generous spirit. He loved the art of blacksmithing, shaping iron into something lasting and beautiful. He found deep peace on his farm and in the embrace of nature, caring for animals and nurturing the land he loved so much. His faithful dog Shelby was always by his side, and will miss him dearly.
Those who knew Robert will always remember his warm smile, which made everyone feel welcomed and loved. His kindness, patience, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who were blessed to share his life. Most of all, Robert cherished time spent with Teresa, his family, and his many dear friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife Teresa; his brother Kenneth McMahon; his sisters, Margaret Finn (Cary) and Sharon Schaab (Steve); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members—each of whom held a special place in his heart.
A memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 15th, with family receiving friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Berry Highland West Funeral Home in Knoxville.
To celebrate Robert’s love for the Great Smoky Mountains, the family welcomes memorial donations to Friends of the Smokies or any cause devoted to preserving the Smokies and our cherished National Parks.
Robert’s family is profoundly grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this time of sorrow. His memory will live on in every smile he inspired, every kindness he showed, and every heart he touched.
