Sheila Arlene Hoskins, age 82, of Strawberry Plains, TN passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Sheila was a devoted and longtime member of Thorngrove Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, youth choir leader, and senior adult leader. Her unwavering dedication to her church family was a testament to her deep faith and generous spirit. In her leisure time, she found joy in bowling and was renowned for baking her legendary pecan pies—truly the best anyone had ever tasted. She delighted in sharing these treasured treats at church fundraising events, spreading happiness one slice at a time. Sheila was also a proud founding member of the Mountain Music Kids' Fishing Tournament, reflecting her love for community and children. In her younger years, she graced her high school as both beauty queen and majorette, capturing hearts with her radiant presence. Sheila and her beloved "Big David" shared a beautiful partnership in their garden, where they spent countless hours cultivating vegetables together. He lovingly kept her busy canning green beans, tomatoes, and okra preserving not just food, but precious memories. She had a profound love for gospel music and enjoyed attending gospel music events, where her soul was filled with joy and inspiration. Known for her warm and welcoming nature, Sheila was a true friend to everyone she met. Her infectious smile had the remarkable ability to light up any room and bring comfort to all who knew her. She devoted her entire life to lovingly caring for "Big David," her devoted husband of 64 wonderful years. As high school sweethearts, theirs was truly a love story for the ages—a testament to enduring love, commitment, and partnership.
Sheila was preceded in passing by her parents, Willis and Nellie Dykes; Brothers, Neil and Roger Dykes. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving and dedicated husband David Hoskins Sr.; son, David (Michelle) Hoskins Jr.; sister, Peggy Ellison; grandson, Jordan (Brittany) Hoskins; brothers-in-law, Chuck Hoskins, Norman Hoskins, Walter McMillan; sisters-in-law, Debbie Ballard, Betty Ann McMillan, Joyce Cooper, and Carolyn Allen, and many close friends and neighbors.
Family and friends will gather to honor the life and legacy of Sheila Hoskins at McCarty-Evergreen Funeral Home, 7426 Asheville Highway, Knoxville, TN 37924, on Friday, September 19th. 2025,with a visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, and a funeral service to follow at 7:00pm, with Rev. Joey Marshall to officiate the service. Family and friends will gather once more at Eastview Memorial Gardens, 1320 Andrew Johnson Highway, Strawberry Plains, TN 37871, on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 11:00 AM for a committal service. Honorary pallbearers are Gary Dykes, Gene Ellison, Brad Ellison, Wyl McMillan, Gary Cate and Jeffrey McMillan.
