C. Vernon Rose Sr., age 87, of South Knoxville, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 27, 2021. He was a member of Meadow View Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He retired from the US Postal Service as a mail clerk. He was a life-long Tennessee Vols football fan and had the distinction of serving as the longest continuous Gate Keeper, at Gate 24, in Neyland Stadium history. Vernon enjoyed farming, camping, and bike riding with his family. He also enjoyed mentoring youth and coaching sports. He was a devoted member of the American Postal Workers Union Local 263 and served as a steward throughout his career. He never met a stranger and loved his fellowman.
He was preceded in death by sons, Clyde Vernon Jr., Joe and Chuck Rose.
Survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; sister, Audra (Mayford) Rose; son, Danny Rose; daughter, Sheryl Anne Rose; daughter-in-law, Kathy Rose; grandsons, Ben (Shay) Rose, Chad (Deidre) Rose, Josh (Dana) Rose, Scott (Ashley) Rose; granddaughter, Amy (Ron) Llano and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm in the Chapel of Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Hwy, Knoxville with a service to follow officiated by Rev. Alan Stalsworth. Friends and family will meet Friday, July 2, 2021 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 4500 Woodlawn Pike for a 10:00am Interment Service.
