Mrs. Viola Tillett, age 92 of Knoxville, passed away February 23, 2014. She was born on August 19, 1922 to the late John Ally and Anna Harmon in Turner, Montana. She was one tough cookie, with an unbelievably adventurous spirit, proudly serving our country as a Navy WAV during WWII. Although arthritis and a failing memory limited her in her final years, she remained spunky till the end. She was the manager for her husband’s trucking business, a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and loved her Valley Avenue neighbors dearly. Mrs. Tillett is survived by: son, John (Cindy) Tillett; daughters, Lugene (Paul) Fernald and Nanette (Jackie) Jones; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Stephanie, Ashley, Robi, Katie, Cyndi, and Teri; special pet, Mika; and extended family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: her loving husband of 50 years, James Tillett; brothers, Clarence and Eddie John Harmon; and sisters, Lucille Barger and Izzie Brenaman. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at Courtyard Senior Living for their dedication and care for Mrs. Tillett. In Lieu of flowers, please send memorials to: Alzheimer’s Tennessee at www.alztennessee.org. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2014 at 1pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 11am. A private entombment will follow at Berry Highland South Cemetery.
