

Wanda Maxine (Haynes) Hamilton, age 92, of Knoxville, passed away at home on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. Wanda was a 1951 graduate of Rule High School. She worked as an operator for Southern Bell prior to starting her family with her husband of 64 years, Max Elton Hamilton. After a few years moving for Max’s early career, they settled in South Knoxville in 1963. She was a long-time member of the senior adult women’s Sunday School Class at Meridian Baptist Church. Wanda was a PTA mom, classroom mom, clinic worker, and volunteer throughout her children’s time in elementary and middle schools. She was a loving wife and mother and received the ultimate joy in doting over her three grandchildren for the past 22 years. Wanda is preceded in death by her parents, Jonas and Edna Daisy Haynes and sister, Betty Purkey. She is survived by her husband, Max; daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer; son, Marshall; daughter-in-law, Myra; grandchildren, Sofia Maxine, Amelia, and Calvin; brothers, William (Bill) and James (Bob) Haynes; special friend, Randy Holbert; and many nephews and nieces.
Wanda’s family expresses sincere gratitude for the care to Wanda and Max provided by friend, Misty Daniels, and granddaughter, Amelia Hamilton.
In accordance with Wanda’s wishes, her family will have a private service, Friday, September 26th, 12:30 PM located at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, TN 37920
