Wanda Elizabeth Hill Monday

Wanda graduated from Knoxville High School as Valedictorian, on January 21, 1943. Wanda was a faithful member of Woodlawn Christian Church, where she kept the Sunday School nursery for 32 years. She was honored by the church and received the Good and Faithful Servant Award, for her years of service. She was a member of the A.A.R.P. and Treasurer of South Knoxville Chapter. She loved the O’ Connor Senior Center, and for over 20 years visited regularly 3 days a week. Wanda worked at U.T. three different times for a total of 50 years- eventually retiring after 38 years in the Agriculture Engineering Department as Principal Secretary. She was a member of the U.T. Retirees Association, attended regular meetings, and volunteered in the office. She was an avid Vol Fan, and held season football tickets for over 60 years. She loved to travel. Wanda particularly enjoyed her grandson’s baseball and traveled over the Southeast to tournaments and games. She was affectionately known as “Granny” to teammates and opposing players. For the last 5 years Wanda received loving care and attention from her daughter Sandra – care that money could not buy and only love could provide. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Tom Gouffon for his kindness and consideration to Wanda, and Dr. John Vannoy and his nurse Tammy Bates for the loving care they have provided over several years.

She is preceded in death by parents, Cyril and Lora Payne; husband, Horace Monday Jr.; Wanda is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Vicki Monday, and Steve and Jackie Monday; daughter and son-in-law Sandra (Sweetie) and Chris Kirkland; 7 grandchildren, Shea Dukes and Brandi Dukes, Kevin and Kristi Monday, Sarah Kirkland, Ali (Ben) Huff, and Christopher (Taylor) Kirkland; 5 Great grandchildren, Nick, Cameron, Chase, Nolan and Liam. Sister and brother-in-law Norma and Ralph Bounds. Special niece Sharon Winkle.

Family will receive friends Tuesday April 15, 2014 from 6-8 at Woodlawn Christian Church. Service will follow at 8pm. Family and friends will meet Wednesday April 16, 2014 for an 11:00am Graveside Service at Woodlawn Cemetery.Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.
