Obituary of Allen Anderson
Allen Anderson, age 93, passed away on January 22, 2020 in Kokomo. Allen was born on September 12, 1926 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Vern and Lecester (Fowlkes) Anderson. Following graduation from Sandusky High School, Allen enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country honorably during World War II. When he had completed his military career, Allen moved to Toledo, Ohio and married his first wife, Jacquelyn Connor in 1946. Allen and Jacquelyn divorced in 1951, but together, continued to raise their two children, Allen Jr. and Sheila. On February 2, 1955, Allen was married to Mary (Willis) in Toledo, Ohio, and she preceded Allen in passing on April 1, 2018. Allen moved his family to Kokomo in 1960, and began working at the Chrysler casting plant. At Chrysler, Allen was promoted to foreman, and became the first black supervisor at the Kokomo casting plant. He had spent over 25 years working for Chrysler, retiring in 1985. Allen was a member of the American Legion and Kokomo’s Kings and Queens Social Club. He also enjoyed spending his free time bowling, fishing, and grilling. Allen is survived by his children, Sheila Anderson, Tony Willis, and Brian Anderson; brother, Tommy Anderson; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Allen was preceded in passing by a son, Allen Anderson Jr.; sister, Marjorie Anderson; and brothers, Howard Anderson, Russell Anderson, and Earl Anderson. There will be a visitation for Allen held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Saturday, February 1st from 10 am to 12 pm, followed immediately by a funeral service.
