Dixie S (Milligan) Lancaster, 81, of Miami passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Kokomo at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022. She was born May 14, 1940 in Tipton, Indiana to the late William and Florence Milligan. On November 20, 1957 she married the love of her life Robert “Blackie” Lancaster. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary before his passing in 2021.
Dixie was a homemaker and a loving mother to her four children as well as half the town of Miami. She had a capacity for love that went far beyond her household, and her gentle spirit was a guiding light for many who knew her. She spent 15 years volunteering at Maconaquah Elementary, and was a devoted member of Miami Methodist Church. Dixie loved traveling and was up for anything…except swimming! She made sure her children attended swimming lessons so they wouldn’t share her fear of water. This never slowed her down, as she was one of the strongest and bravest people you could meet. In her free time, Dixie always had a project whether it was gardening, puzzles, or crafts. There was hardly a time you could find her lazing about, yet she enjoyed every moment. She could often be found humming hymns or country music.Dixie had a heart of gold and left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was an inspiration, a wonderful role model, and someone you could always count on. Every memory made with her will forever be in our hearts. She is deeply loved and greatly missed.
Dixie is survived by her sister, Dee Milligan, and her brother, Mike (Linda) Milligan. Her children, Dana Kling, Marisa (Steve) Hewitt, Robert (Denise) Lancaster, and Shonda (Randy) Machado; 12 grandchildren, Jim (Christy) Kling, Tishelle (Jim) Heckman, Elliott (Courtney) Kling, Josh Hewitt, Mandy Forgue, Tiffany (Dave) Salvagnini, Tara (Aaron) Cooper, Andrew (Savannah) Lancaster, Shaina (Aaron) Creech, Deborah (Jake) Tritt, Tommie Jo Machado, and Shaylenne Machado; 19 great grandchildren, J.T., Christopher, and Kory Kling, Cameron Harris, McKenna and Marlee Kling, Faith and Kendall Hewitt, Skye Suthers, David, Dawson, and Anastasia Salvagnini, Christopher and Annabelle Lancaster, Jareth Lancaster, and Natalie, Alistir, Atticus, and Azula Tritt; along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Betty, Thelma, Lulabelle, Patsy, and Mary Jo; her brother, Billy; her husband, Robert Lancaster; along with several nieces and nephews.
