

Elma Rose (Whitacre) O’Brien, 88, Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born August 23, 1924, in Alto, to Harvey and Eva Mina (Nicholson) Whitacre. On May 30, 1953, she married William J. O’Brien in Los Angeles, California, and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1971.
Rose graduated from West Middleton High School in 1942. She worked several jobs over the course of her life and retired from Delco Electronics in 1987. She was a member of UAW Local 292, an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed traveling. She loved her family above all.
She is survived by her children, Patti (Mike) Garret-Mosson, Mike (Liz) O’Brien, and Karen (Steve) Samsel; grandchildren, Lindsie, Daniel, Kailen, Courtney, Ravi, Ashley, Ariel, Josh Sharief; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Ethan, Brooklyn, Dawson, Maddie, Carson, and Dillon; sister, Sarah Finch; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, and four sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home with Pastor Gregg Davis officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for the Walking For Rose Team.
