Gerald John “Jerry” Maden

Gerald “Jerry” John Maden, 71, of Kokomo passed away Saturday March 2, 2019 at his
residence. Born January 15, 1948 in Woodbury, New Jersey, he was the son of the late
Reginald John Maden and Helen Clara (Kummer) Maden.
After graduating from Clayton High School (1966) and Drexel University (BS, 1971), he was
commissioned as a United States Marine Corp officer. Jerry flew helicopters in the Vietnam
War, notably flying during the evacuation of Saigon. Upon his return, he married Deborah
Elaine (Weir) on July 26, 1975. Following his military service, he worked for Kodak and earned
his MBA at Rochester Institute of Technology (1978). Jerry settled in Kokomo in 1978. He
retired from Delphi Automotive Systems in 2005 and had built over a dozen homes in Howard
County.
Jerry was an avid athlete, enjoying football, rugby, lacrosse, running, racquetball, cycling, and
most recently pickleball. He was a volunteer and board member for Habitat for Humanity and
Meals on Wheels. He made annual trips to Costa Rica to volunteer for Central American
Mission Projects, served as a mentor for the VA, and prepared taxes for AARP Foundation
Tax-Aides.
He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Debbie Maden of Kokomo; one son Brett Maden of
Boston, MA; two daughters Devon K. (Steven) Good of Salt Lake City, UT and Kelly Maden of
Denver, CO; and two sisters Bonnie (Bill) Dahl and Linda (John) Sheldon of New Jersey.
Funeral services and military rites by the U.S. Marine Corp and the Kokomo Military Rites Team
will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400
South Webster Street, Kokomo. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
