IN THE CARE OF
Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home & Cemetery
James “Spanky” Spencer, age 69, passed away at his home in Kokomo on October 22, 2019. Jim was born on November 7, 1949 in Kokomo to the late John and Leah (White) Spencer.
After graduating from Kokomo High School with the class of 1968, Jim attended Ball State, and then Anderson University, where he played football. He worked for the Chrysler plant in Kokomo for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. On May 22, 1993, Jim was married to Kay (Fitzer) in Kokomo, and she survives.
Jim was a member of the Kokomo VFW, Sons of the American Legion, and UAW 1166. He loved to play golf, and after he retired from Chrysler, he kept himself occupied by helping in any way that he could at the American Legion Golf Course. He was also an avid fan of Notre Dame football, and never missed watching a game. More than anything, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Kay Spencer, Jim is survived by his son, Rex (Annie) Spencer; stepchildren, Brian Fitzer (Amber D. Smith) and Brook (Aaron) Smith; and grandchildren, Grady Spencer, Quinn Smith, and Jude Smith.
There are no services planned for Jim at this time. Jim’s family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Kokomo Humane Society to celebrate his reuniting with his chocolate Labrador, Lilly.
