

John worked as an accountant for Chrysler and Delco for many years, and later worked as a salesman, selling household goods, hats, and belts. He was a graduate of Indiana University in 1950, achieving a degree in business and finance. John attended his 50th class reunion. He served our country in the Army Air Corps for four years. John was also a member of American Legion Post 6, the Kokomo VFW 1512, and a member of the Lions Club in Osgood. He worked for Meals on Wheels, and he read to the citizens at Buckeye Village in Osgood, Indiana. John was a past toast master in Kokomo and a lay minister for the Methodist Southern Conference. He loved to travel- he has been to all fifty states, all of Europe, Israel, Egypt, Russia, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Greece. John was a history buff- and the first in his family to attend a university. He was a very humble, but a very proud man.
John is survived by daughters Linda Smith and Barbara Hyde; step daughter Judith (William) Andrews; stepson David Ashe; sister Alice Ward; grandchildren Thomas (Tammy) Turley and Troy (Elle) Turley, Cheryl Kelly, Amy Gibson, Gary (Casey) Thacker, and Sarah (Adam) McLain, and Jesse Ashe; great-grandchildren Paige, Tanner, Teagan, Treyton, Lewis, and Audrey Turley, Tara Thacker, Kayla McMorris, Joshua Kelly, Czarhia and Nahum Gibson, Gary III and Autumn Thacker, Samuel Russell and Dylan McLain, Dena Madden, Tammy Ringler, Stacy Andrew and Jason Andrew; and great-great grandchild Makia Turley.
John is preceded in death by his son, John H. Parsons (1994).
A memorial service will be held for John at Highland Park Church, 516 West Sycamore Street, Kokomo, IN 46901 on Saturday, December 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with military honors, with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 am. Family would like to thank the staff at The Kokomo Place and Great Lakes Hospice Care. Memorial contributions can be made to the Highland Park Church food bank, or to National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.
