Judith Katherine Ligon

JUDITH LIGON - November 2, 1942 - October 28, 2018 Ligon was a Kokomo, Indiana based artist and designer with over 60 years of experience in fine art, graphic design and public art design. She started her formal art education at the Seiberling Mansion in 1954 at the age of 12 years old. A 1961 graduate of Kokomo High School, she went on to study Opera at Indiana University-Bloomington and became an opera singer and professional artist in New York City, where she married her husband Melvin Ligon, Radio Press International Bureau Chief for the United Nations. Based in NYC for over a decade, her paintings were exhibited and collected all over the world, originating from the collections at the Vernage Pavillion Gallery at Henri Bendel's and commissions for J.P. Morgan CHASE Bank, both located in New York City. In 1972 she moved back to Kokomo, where she shifted the focus of her artistry to create miniatures and Victorian inspired pieces of the highest quality for her own design company “Fleur de Lygon”. Locally, Ligon won an award for her work, for the 2006 Artistic Expressions Competition illustration of the Seiberling Mansion for the Kokomo Tribune. In 2014 she suffered a severe stroke. To celebrate her legacy as a fine artist, her estate has donated her hand crafted Victorian Christmas tree, an item she designed for George Koch and Sons in Evansville, her doll collection, and an intricate “Teddy Bear Townhouse” she created to house her miniature German Steiff Teddy Bear to the permanent collection of the Seiberling Mansion-Howard County Historical Society. Ligon is survived by her daughter Robin Ligon Eaton, and granddaughter Colette Williams, both of Atlanta, Georgia. Family will receive friends Thursday, November 1 from 5-9pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, IN. Funeral Mass is Friday, November 2 at 2pm at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1204 N Armstrong St, Kokomo, IN 46901.
