Lewis graduated from Kokomo High School, and then enlisted in the Army National Guard, serving for six years. He was married to Shirley (Phipps), and they later divorced but remained good friends. He had worked for Delco Electronics for 15 years, and then worked several other jobs, including selling insurance, real estate, working at the steel mill, J. Lewis Small, and Dick Sanburn Sporting Goods.
Lewis was a very gifted athlete. He excelled in basketball when he was younger, and played on city league teams. He also assisted in coaching his son’s basketball team. He was also very skilled in golf, and held many records at the courses in and around Kokomo. He also enjoyed bowling, and watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana and Butler basketball, and NASCAR. Lewis had spent time attending both Morning Star Church and First Assembly of God Church in Kokomo. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Howard Masonic Temple.
Lewis is survived by his sons, Lewis Campbell Jr. and Ty Watts; daughters, Rhonda Colvin, Felicia Watts, Vicki (Roy) Long, Kim Bowman, and Cindy (Mick) Bates; brother, Robert Campbell; granddaughter, Vannessa Campbell; and great grandson, Asa Haptonstall. Lewis also leaves several step grandchildren and nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.
There will be a public visitation for Lewis held at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home on Thursday, December 20th from 4-7 p.m., and another visitation on Friday, December 21st from 12-1, immediately followed by a funeral service. Lewis will be laid to rest at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo.
Memorial contributions in Lewis’ name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
