It is with deep sadness, yet great joy, that we announce the passing of Marjorie May (Turner) Fitch, into her heavenly home. Marjorie closed her eyes from this life and opened them in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, an encounter she had lived her entire life to achieve, on October 31, 2024.
Margie was born into this world on September 19,1934 to Edna May (Chenoweth) and Irvin Robert Turner, in West Middleton, Indiana. She grew up in Kokomo and spent her adult life giving to others. On June 6, 1953, she married her best friend and faithful partner in her Christian Walk, Gene Fitch. She was a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years, also helping with Women’s Ministries, Children’s Church, food pantries, and so much more. If you were looking for her, she could always be found in the kitchen, no matter what church she was in, working to serve others.
Margie loved life and talking to others about Jesus. She prayed for God to give her a special testimony and He did so in 1996. She was never too tired to talk about the Lord or serve someone else.
She never knew a stranger and made it her mission to be sure all she came into contact with was ‘ready’ to meet the Lord. Her enthusiasm about her Lord was infectious and those who met her wanted what she had. Her life and actions are an example in how to live without regret, and how to never leave words unsaid with those you love. If Margie could speak to you today, she would say: “Do you know my Jesus? He is truly a friend. “
After a four-year relocation to Houston, they returned to Kokomo in 1989, and faithfully attended and served at New Life Assembly of God Church, until the passing of Gene, on January 12, 2018. Margie left Kokomo and went to live with her granddaughter, Melonie (Chris) Cawvey, and their teenage daughters, Meredith, and Madison, where she thrived in a new home and new church until July 2024, when she relocated to an Alzheimer’s unit for continuous care.
Margie was a full-time wife, mother and homemaker. Left to cherish her memory are 2 children, Gary (Donna) Fitch of Kokomo, IN, and Debra (John “Joey”) Claunch of Tucson, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Melonie (Chris) Cawvey of Camby, IN, Amanda (Doug) Trott of Kokomo, IN, Jeremy (Gina) Meyer of Houston, TX, and Anne (Jerry) Moore of Kokomo, IN; 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Reita Kay Maupin, of Kokomo, IN.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Edna; her husband of almost 65 years, Gene Fitch; and her brother, Marvin Turner.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that in memory of Margie, you do something kind for someone else today, and then that you would do it again tomorrow.
A time of visitation for Marjorie will be held Monday, November 4, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Following the time of visitation will be a graveside service at 12:00 PM at Albright Cemetery, 3910 Albright Rd, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
