Martha Jane Vaughn Oatley

Martha Jane Vaughn Oatley, 83, was called Home on March 7th, 2019. Martha was born to Samuel and Addie Carter on April 29th, 1935 in Paducah, Kentucky. She was a 1953 graduate of Kokomo High School. Martha retired from Delco General Motors after 31 years of service at the main plant on Firmin Street. Martha enjoyed antiquing at Treasure Mart, going to auctions, and thrifting. She was talented at repairing antique toys and had created a special workshop for her grandchildren to play in behind her house. Martha enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. Martha married David Oatley on September 26th, 2007 and together they moved to Kankakee, Illinois in 2010. Martha was a charitable Christian and very strong in all aspects of life. Martha loved her family very much and will be missed dearly. Martha leaves behind her husband, David Oatley; children Brenda Moeller, James (Patty) Vaughn, and Fredrick Vaughn; one sister Nellie Carpenter; grandchildren Melissa (Chris) Wendt, Michele James, and Maryelyn (Justin) Porter, James Vaughn Jr., Christina (Steve) Davis, and Jennifer Shaffer; great-grandchildren Orianna Wendt, Emmett, Liam, Harlow, and Hadley Porter, Aiden James Vaughn, William and Kenny Davis, Dylan, and Jarred Massey; and several nieces and nephews. Martha is preceded in passing by her parents; siblings Josie Carter, Jesse Carter, David Carter, Jerry Carter, Lettie Schoumaker, Pauline Sullivan, Sam Carter, Jean Lee, and Omega Curtin. Friends and family may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday March 13th, at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel. Funeral will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Dennis Oatley. Martha will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Garden following the services.
