

Raymond Arthur Hammel, 71, passed away after a short illness on January 25, 2018. He was born to Albert and Beatrice (Lovitt) Hammel on July 14, 1946 in Mount Morris, Michigan. Ray married his wife of 47 years, Gail Selpien, on April 18, 1970 in Elgin, Illinois. She survives. Ray served our country in the United States Navy.
Ray was a Peanuts enthusiast. He enjoyed reading, and walking his dogs, Fred and Coco. Ray enjoyed watching the White Sox. When his children were young, he coached them in sports, and later watched his grandkids play. Ray was also involved in the Bona Vista bowling team, Boy Scouts, and the American Legion. Together, Ray and Gail attended Peace Lutheran Church, and would go out to breakfast afterwards every Sunday. They also visited auctions together. Ray will be missed by his friends and family.
Ray is survived by his wife, Gail Hammel; sons Al (Christy) Hammel, Randy Hammel, and Jerry (Monica) Hammel; brothers Charles, Bill, and Jim Hammel, sister Nola Knapp; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Ray is preceded in passing by his parents; son Bryan Hammel; granddaughter Sophia Hammel; and brothers Ed and Frank Hammel.
Family will receive friends from 4PM to 7PM on Tuesday, January 30th at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel and 10AM to 11AM on Wednesday January 31st, with funeral service following at 11AM, officiated by Pastor Joshua Bishop. Ray will be laid to rest at Albright Cemetery.
