Born to Phillip Luzi and Filomena Picciocchi February 4, 1931 in Youngstown, Ohio. He celebrated his 90th birthday in 2021 and was so proud of his milestone. He moved to Fontana, California at age 10. After his father Phillip died, he became devoted to his mother, driving her around in his baby-blue Corvette. Family members remember them laughing together, getting up at 4 a.m. to make homemade noodles for a family Sunday dinner. You’d walk into the bedroom and the noodles would be laid out on the bed drying.
He spent two years in the Army as a cook during in the Korean war followed by many years working as a crane operator at Kaiser Steel in Fontana until his early retirement.
In 1966, he dedicated his heart to Mafalda Italia Businaro and they married in Ensenada, B.C. He was also an amazing father, and his life was fulfilled raising his two daughters Ana and Dianne. After retiring from Kaiser Steel, he began a second career as painter extraordinaire. Many of the finest homes in San Bernardino County bear his mark. He loved traveling to many states to paint the homes of his daughters over the years, covering the states of Oregon, North Carolina, California and Hawaii. He and Mafalda relocated in 2017 to Darnestown, Maryland under the care of his daughter Ana. He never thought he would ever live on the east coast again, but he embraced the new adventure of living close to Washington DC and the beauty of the four seasons that surrounded him.
He passed peacefully to eternal life on New Year’s Eve surrounded by the love of family.
Dominic is survived by his beloved wife, Mafalda, two daughters and their husbands; Ana and Ben Meyers, Dianne and Peter Shearon, five grandchildren; Amanda Shearon Talle and Andrew Talle, Christina Shearon, Christopher, Caroline and Matthew Meyers. He has many relatives who adored him, and hundreds of compadres. He’s joined in heaven with his parents, twin sisters, family, and friends. He will always remain in our hearts. Please celebrate this wonderful man with us.
