Born in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico to Refugio and Micaela (Zuniga) Moreno, his family came to Los Angeles when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in 1966. Jose had a long career at So Cal Gas Co., working his way from the mailroom to becoming one of their first Latino engineers. He was well respected in his professional life.
Jose enjoyed travel, his many friends & family, and a lifelong love of jazz, soul, & mariachi music.
Jose is survived by sisters Liana Wooten of Cerritos, California; nephews Mick, Joseph, and Shane; and Maggie Somers of Minneapolis, Minnesota; nieces Michelle and Melissa, and nephews James and Jeffrey. He is also survived by daughter Gina Esparza of La Palma; son Aaron Moreno of Los Angeles; daughter Rachel Magallon of Buena Park; and three granddaughters; and by his third wife Gail (Gallardo) Moreno of Chula Vista, California; step-son Antonio Gallardo and granddaughters Sierra and Savannah.
Jose passed away peacefully after a long illness. He will be greatly missed by those who love him.
