Mr. McManus was born April 23, 1928 in Woodland, AL, son of the late Amos Marshall McManus and Linnie Washington McManus. Lefty was a member of the Famous McManus Brothers basketball team. He had lived in LaGrange most of his life, was Baptist by faith, and retired from Callaway Mills/Milliken, where he worked as a Supervisor for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Parmer McManus; a sister, Imogene Bailey; and brothers, Joe Bob, Jessie Ray ‘J.R.’, and Durrell McManus.
Survivors include his son, Larry (Wanda) McManus of LaGrange; brothers, Marshall, Murphy, and Bayward McManus; grandchildren, Chad McManus, Nicole Aldridge, and Amy Browning; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Hannah McManus, Madison, Chelsey, and Blake Aldridge, and Hunter and Hayden Browning; his loving dog ‘Dixie’; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will gather to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Pastor Terrin Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Family Life Fellowship (1605 Vernon Rd., LaGrange,GA 30240) in memory of Dorsey Burns ‘Lefty’ McManus.
