Hollis served in the United States Army Military Intelligence from 1966-1969 with the bulk of his service in Germany. Upon returning to the States, he completed his college education and embarked on his 26 year career with the IRS Criminal Investigation Division as a special agent. After retiring, he spent 11 years doing contract work for the Secret Service, FBI, CIA, and Homeland Security. He particularly enjoyed his time serving on presidential protection details during election years. He also had the privilege of managing a security contingent with the 1996 Olympic Police in Atlanta.
Hollis was a dedicated husband, dad, and grandpa. He loved his wife, Sandy, and wanted to do whatever he could to make her happy. He planned amazing trips where they could experience the world together. They traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, Aruba, and the Caribbean, to name a few favorites. Hollis would always find ways to spoil her and make sure she knew he loved and appreciated her until his last days. Hollis was always there to support his children, Kim and Brandon, during their childhood but most recently spent countless hours supporting his grandchildren at football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and Marching Band/Color Guard when they were in high school. He was also an animal lover who had an array of pets that included numerous dogs, guinea pigs, and even a squirrel.
Grandpa was best known in Heard County for zooming around in his wheelchair at the various school and athletic events that his grandchildren were involved in. He would be at every football, cheerleading, volleyball, tennis, cross country, basketball, and track event that took place with any of his grandkids. Everyone knew the Tisdale kids’ grandpa because he was always recording and taking pictures everywhere he went. His family was his pride and joy!
Hollis was a member of Yellow River Baptist Church during the time that he and Sandy resided in Gwinnett County. Most recently, he was a member of the First Baptist on the Square of LaGrange and loved being with everyone in the Richard Shiver Bible Class. He loved spending time with his church families and those friends have become more like family. He was a true believer of the Lord and lived his life accordingly.
Hollis was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Kenneth and Violet Bliss, brothers, Lyle and Orbra Bliss, sister-in-law, Sally Bliss, and son, Brandon Christopher Shane Bliss.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sandra Shaffer Bliss of LaGrange, his daughter, Kimberley (Brent) Tisdale of Franklin, his grandchildren, Emily Tisdale, Ansley Tisdale, and Ethan Tisdale; and numerous other family members who loved him dearly.
